Data Science @ IRIS.TV
by Dr. Thomas Sullivan, Chief Data Scientist and Joel Spitalnik, VP Engineering
While video recommendations best serve the viewer experience when presented in real time, machine learning is a computationally intensive process that is often done on the back end. IRIS.TV’s utilizes a hybrid process to synchronize computational tasks for learning so that engineering and data science teams can shrink the latency between analyzing history and presentation of recommended videos to improve the experience.
Dr. Thomas Sullivan, Chief Data Scientist at IRIS.TV is a data scientist/statistician with extensive IP development experience and is the (co-)author of 8 books. Prior to joining IRIS.tv, he spent 13 years as a Senior Information Scientist at the RAND Corporation, taught Applied Statistics at the RAND’s graduate school, and then was Director of R&D at a tech company in Santa Monica. He holds a Ph.D. in Computational Sciences, an M.S. in Statistical Sciences, and an M.A. in Economics.
Joel Spitalnik, VP Engineering at IRIS.TV has developed iOS apps for hospital laboratory testing as well as dynamic websites for arts and entertainment organizations. He is a veteran of the film and television industry, having worked for Disney, DreamWorks SKG, HDNet, and A-Line Pictures. He is a graduate of Princeton University and is an active member of multiple programming communities.
